LAN: 09-Apr-2010
Theme: Old Skool Gaming
This LAN night is all about "Old Skool Gaming"! 5 of the best games from the Pre-Battlefield 2 Era have been chosen. Can your computer handle it?
If you wish to attend the LAN but prefer graphics over gameplay, simply set up in the TV room. The LAN will begin between 1300-1400 on the Friday.

Review by: Dragosun Old Skool Gaming night was a grblast! Had some misses on some games but all in all the gems came out to shine.
Started the night with Warcraft III 2v2v2 matches. Went well, unfortunately Drago and Kais steam rolled Swiss and Panzer early on leaving them with a sour taste in their mouth and leaving them to wait 10 mins for Azrail and Static to claim victory.
Followed on with Tribes: Vengeance (a personal favourite). All in all everyone had fun, reminiscent of Unreal Tournament with Flying tanks and gatling gun turrents. Played a bit of capture the flag in an outdoor and cavern setting, jetpacking to victory. Finished up with 'Rabbit' a capture the flag mode where you obtain opoints from holding he flag (while everyone guns for you), Kais took victory proving he has the biggest ears of them all.
Halo was short lived. After the Tribes:Vengeance run, it just seemed lacklustre (no jetpacks WTF!).
Warcraft III was updated and mods attached (thanks Azrail) and the night continued with a plethora of survival mods including Red v Blue survival, X-men academy, various base assaults, the crazy demon stage and my personal favorite (okay just for the name) Moo Moo Train Survival (man that electric voidwalker is crazy).
By the time we got through 0.0005% of the WC3 mods it was midnight and time to end the event.
Starcraft was not played due to lack of interest and installation difficulties *points at Kais_4*
A quick shout out to Maxcat too, who dropped by to instill some race car driving skills into the plebs.
And to our newest members Nexus and Zarrin for making another appearance and showing off some skillz.
Pros:
Fresh games that havent been played before at LAN (or at least for a long time)
Everyone was a nub = enjoyable to learn together (even nadzy was keen to play WC3 till 1159)
Plenty of co-op with WC3
Cons:
Time to organise some games w/ install at start of night
Not enough time to hit all 5 games announced.
Remarks:
Don't let Drago play Rabbit, team kills go through the roof!
Recommend this night again in the future, or inclusion of WC3 and Tribes into gaming list for future LANs. |
